Back in the seventies, we had a heatwave that is still talked about to this day. It was 1976, and here in the UK, we were having a drought – can you imagine that? It was such a big deal that the government came up with a clever slogan to remind us to conserve water. What was it? Well, they told us to...

‘Save water, bathe with a friend.’

It was a little risque, which always helps make it the kind of slogan that will sit in your head forever. Like these:

  • Finger licking good.

  • A diamond is forever.

  • Have a break, have a KitKat.

Now we live in the day of the entrepreneur, everyone is trying to come up with a catchy strapline for their business. I’ve seen good ones, bad ones and some that should be buried at sea, but with my hand on my heart, I can’t think of any that have stuck in my head like the ones from days gone by. Perhaps we have used all the good words up now?

In the nineties, I worked in a marketing and advertising agency in London, and we had some big clients - Neutrogena, Ever Ready Batteries and Domino’s Pizza to name just a few. In those days, creative types were fuelled by lack of sleep, Tchibo coffee, copious amounts of wine and boozy client lunches. Thinking about it, maybe the best slogans in the world were born from one too many vinos, and when drinking in the office became a no-no, all the saucy, sticky, snappy words dried up?

These days, I write mainly book titles and subtitles, but I have written a fair few taglines, straplines, slogans, and quotes in my time - none that will be remembered with such awe as the ones we all know and love, I'm sure.

For Glam Girl Media, I kept it simple and serving, and that is honestly the best way. ‘Shining a Light on You’ is what we do for our clients and what a book will do for you too.

Have you been trying to come up with a clever slogan of your own? I’d love to hear all about it, so do get in touch and let's discuss that!
